About Us

Peter (left) at riding at the Cheltenham FestivalOwner operator Peter Davies is a former professional steeplechase jockey from the U.K. In 1995 Peter came to New Zealand as a racehorse trainer on the North Island. However it was during his travels around the South Island that he came across Glenorchy and was given the opportunity to work at, and thereafter help establish, Dart Stables which had been operating since 1992.

"Glenorchy was the most beautiful part of the world that I'd come across", says Peter.

"I was looking for an excuse to stay indefinitely and Dart Stables offered a wonderful opportunity. So I decided to buy the business."

Peter says it's a love of horses that makes Dart Stables different.

"I don't like to consider us a horse trekking operation. To me that conjures up a picture of bored horses in an elephant trail. I'd prefer to describe us as a horse riding operation, giving all levels of riders the opportunity to excel on horseback."

Over the last few years Peter has built up a great team of horses. He travels the South Island searching for suitable horses to complement the operation.

"We spend a lot of time with each horse, assessing their abilities and personality, so that we can provide a suitable match for each rider. Clients are constantly amazed at the condition of our horses and the beauty that surrounds us. Most say they have never experienced better. I hope that you will join us and agree."
