RIDING OPTIONS
| Dart Stables
offers a variety of riding options to suit all, from first timers to those
who have been riding all their life! To ensure clients enjoy themselves
regardless of their ability, Dart Stables provides a guide to client ratio
of at least 1 to 5. Our team of experienced guides will assess each clients
riding experience and ability when allocating horses, and instruction will
be provided to first timers or those less experienced. On the ride guides
are keen to instruct those willing to learn, and will provide every opportunity
for the experienced to ride unhindered. For the health and well being of
our horses there is a weight limit of 95kg/210lbs/15st.
When making your booking please ensure you confirm your riding ability as accurately as possible, your weight and height so we can match you to a suitable horse. You may also find it useful to refer to our Frequently Asked Questions page. Our range of rides are detailed below. Prices effective 1st October 2007 to 30th September 2008. Exclusive rides and large group rides available on request. Please contact us at least 24 hours before the date you wish to ride. |

Be transported to Middle-Earth astride your own steed! Following the beautiful drive along the shores of Lake Wakatipu, passing Ithilien and stopping en-route to admire The Misty Mountains, you eventually arrive in Paradise where your 1˝ hour ride starts. Winding through the golden woods of Lothlórien, passing Amon Hen, the track opens up and the 'Golden Mile' begins. From here the views of the Wizard's Vale and the mighty peak of Methedras are breathtaking. A gradual descent takes riders down into Nan Curunír, finally dismounting at the base of Isengard. Probably the most scenic horse ride in the world, and a must for The Lord of the Rings' fans. Suitable for beginner riders. Daily pick up from Queenstown at 8.30am and 1.30pm (5 hour round trip). Adult - NZ$155

A stunning 5 to 6 hour ride to either Kinloch, the Rees Valley or Paradise, depending on the time of year and river crossings. A picnic lunch is provided. Recommended for those with some riding experience and a reasonable level of fitness. Prices include lunch. We do require a minimum number of bookings to run this trip, and the minimum varies according to season. If you do wish to join us on The Full Day ride please email us at riding@glenorchy.co.nz with preferred dates and we'll endeavour to organise a trip to suit you with return transport

A breathtaking 2 day ride over the river flats across the Rees and Dart Rivers stopping for a picnic lunch. After lunch you'll ride along the Rees Valley, pass Diamond Lake to Paradise, the chosen location for Peter Jackson's recent epic "The Lord of the Rings" and several other movies including Willow, Virtual Limit….. and not to mention television commercials (even the Milka cow on the bar of chocolate is standing in Paradise)! Accommodation is provided in cosy wooden cabins set in Paradise's tranquil beech forest. A hearty evening meal will be prepared, whilst you have the opportunity to explore Paradise or just relax taking in its beauty and serenity. After a full breakfast the next day you'll make your way back to the Glenorchy,via the Dart Valley stopping en-route for lunch. All-in-all an unforgetable experience. Recommended for those with some riding experience and a reasonable level of fitness. Prices include all meals and accommodation. Groups and individuals are more than welcome however we do require a minimum number of bookings to run this trip.
